About the program
The Yaebo Players is open to students who have completed 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this past school year. They rehearse Monday-Friday. The emphasis of the group is on refining skills of performance. We would like each student to not only grow as an individual, but also develop their understanding of ensemble work.
This year’s production of the classic musical Godspell is one that we are so excited to produce. Like many of the Yaebo productions of recent years, this truly is an ensemble show, which great opportunities for many people to be featured. A great show to develop further skills in not only singing, dancing, and acting, but also the opportunity to work with improvisation. Godspell retells the Gospel of Matthew. It uses the parables of the Bible to remind people how to be a community. With music by the Stephen Schwartz, the composer of Wicked, this show guarantees to be a lot of fun.
Auditions will be held at Cambridge Middle School on June 4th following the Kick-Off picnic which begins at 5:00. Auditions will consist of a prepared solo (usually about one verse), a cold reading (or multiple readings) from the show, and possibly some improvisational games. We generally prefer to hear songs from the show, but any song will be fine. After the individual solo, you may be asked to prepare a different song from the musical, so we can hear different things. A pianist will be provided.
As usual, copies of the songs can be obtained by contacting Mr. Knudsvig. If you are singing a song from a different source, please provide sheet music for the pianist.
Rehearsals for this group will be from 8:00am -12:00pm Monday through Thursday as well as 9:00am -3:00pm on Fridays (with a few exceptions).
*Registration for all performers is $160. Students will also be responsible for having theatrical makeup for the performances. Play Inc will have makeup that can be purchased during the summer sessions.
