Junior Theatre Troupe
Summer 2019
The Junior Theatre Troupe is geared at the middle-school-aged performers who will be at least age 11 by Sept. 1, 2019. Registration for this group is $135.
About The Program
The Junior Theatre Troupe is open to students who have completed grades 5 through 8. They rehearse Monday-Thursday at Cambridge Middle School from 1:00-4:00. The goal of the program is to expose students to theatre and the various aspects that go into creating a full musical production. Students will learn the basics of singing, acting, and dancing as well as many other things.
The Junior Theatre Troupe is returning to the world of Disney this summer with The Lion King, Jr. This script is especially adapted and only available to performers that are currently in school. It is not available for any other productions outside of Broadway, London, and on tour. We are so excited to have our students be a part of this production. This show includes all of the movie songs you know and love and some of the Broadway additions. It is going to be one of our most fun summers so far.
Auditions
All middle school students who register for the Junior Theatre Troupe will be in the show, however everybody must go through the audition process. Auditions are used to cast leads and smaller parts in the production. Those not receiving speaking parts, will be part of the chorus. Nobody who registers will be denied the opportunity to perform. We will spend the first two days of rehearsal going over the audition pieces and preparing students for those auditions. On the third day we will hold auditions and the next day post the cast list of roles and chorus.
Rehearsals and Expectations
Rehearsals will take place from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. A calendar of specific rehearsal requirements will be provided at the first day of rehearsal and a full schedule of events and rehearsals will be posted on the website. Rehearsals for the first few weeks will be held at Cambridge Middle School and move to Cambridge-Isanti High School the Monday before performances.
Also, note that attendance at the three performances of “I Sing the Body Electric” during the high school production of Chicago is required. This final song is a unifying aspect of the program, and it is expected that all middle school and high school Summer Youth Theatre participants attend. However, do to the more mature material of Chicago unlike previous years, attendance at the final dress performance of the show will not be expected. A specific time will be provided for students to show up for their performance of “I Sing the Body Electric.”
Registration will CLOSE on MAY 3rd.
*Registration for all performers is $135. Students will also be responsible for having theatrical makeup for the performances. Play Inc will have makeup that can be purchased during the summer sessions.
