    About The Program

The Junior Theatre Troupe is open to students who have completed grades 5 through 8. They rehearse Monday-Thursday at Cambridge Middle School from 1:00-4:00. The goal of the program is to expose students to theatre and the various aspects that go into creating a full musical production. Students will learn the basics of singing, acting, and dancing as well as many other things.

The Junior Theatre Troupe will continue their tradition of presenting quality musicals this year, with their production of Honk, Jr. This fun musical is a crazy retelling of the ugly duckling story. This is the second time the Jr. Troupe has produced this show (first time in 2004), and remains one of the best loved shows they have done. Play Inc is excited to be revisiting this fun show again.

All middle school students who register for the Junior Theatre Troupe will be in the show, however everybody must go through the audition process. Auditions are used to cast leads and smaller parts in the production. Those not receiving speaking parts, will be part of the chorus. Nobody who registers will be denied the opportunity to perform. We will spend the first two days of rehearsal going over the audition pieces and preparing students for those auditions. On the third day we will hold auditions and the next day post the cast list of roles and chorus.

    Rehearsals and Expectations

Rehearsals will take place from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. A calendar of specific rehearsal requirements will be provided at the first day of rehearsal and a full schedule of events and rehearsals will be posted on the website. Rehearsals for the first few weeks will be held at Cambridge Middle School and move to Cambridge-Isanti High School the Monday before performances.

Also, note that attendance at the three performances of “I Sing the Body Electric” during the high school production of Once On This Island is required. This final song is a unifying aspect of the program, and it is expected that all middle school and high school Summer Youth Theatre participants attend.

Registration will begin on March 20th and CLOSE on MAY 12th.

*Registration for all performers is $120. If you are new to the Summer Youth Theatre there is an additional $20 charge to purchase a makeup kit for you. This kit is then yours to keep and use on other productions (or we will store it for you until next summer).
